What Makes A Remote Company Great To Work For?

As a seasoned remote worker, I've learned what separates an ordinary remote company from one of the best remote companies to work for.

If you're on the hunt for a great remote job, here are five things to consider that can make or break your experience.

1. Strong Communication Channels

Communication is the backbone of successful remote work.

Look for remote work companies that have efficient systems for daily communication. This includes clear protocols for emails, meetings and tools like Slack.

Why? Because a company that prioritises open and regular communication helps bridge the physical distance between team members. You’ll never be out of the loop.

I love having flexible working hours!

I love having flexible working hours!

2. Flexible Work Hours

One of the biggest benefits of remote work is flexibility.

But not all companies truly embrace this.

The best remote employers understand that flexibility isn’t just about starting your day late; it’s about accommodating different time zones and personal schedules.

They trust you to manage your time effectively without micromanaging every minute of your day.

3. Employee Support And Resources

Great remote companies don’t just send you off with one of the best laptops for remote work and a good luck wish.

They ensure you can access all the technical support and resources you need to do your job effectively. This includes providing software, adequate IT support, and even stipends for setting up your home office.

Companies that invest in their employees' work environment are serious about their staff’s comfort and productivity.

4. Opportunities For Professional Growth

A company without growth opportunities can feel stifling, especially when working remotely.

Top remote companies invest in their employees' development through training, workshops, and continued learning opportunities.

They encourage promotions from within and make it a point to help you advance in your career, recognising and rewarding your hard work.

5. A Strong Sense Of Community

Finally, working remotely shouldn’t mean feeling isolated. The best remote employers foster a sense of community and connection among employees.

This can be through virtual hangouts, team-building activities, and annual company retreats.

A company that cares about creating connections among its team members can make you feel like part of a community, not just another remote employee.
